Winter Wanderings Pictures

So, in typical form, blogging was a failure but I did take a lot of pictures. These were the highlights.

As always, I encourage you to comment, question, criticize and of course, enjoy!

Tasty in Yangon

Just wanted to post something quickly. Yangon was a great experience. It mostly devolved into an eating extravaganza. So many local different options. This is definitely food truck-able. Like a Burmese crepe. Great with a storing cup of tea. Post to follow.

A Roundup of Sorts

January 25, 2013

It’s been awhile since posting, which goes without saying. You spend any amount of time looking at the blogs of people out in the world, invariably you’ll notice that the last post they sent (typically a couple months after the previous post) goes something like “I’m so sorry; I’ll do better!” Then you look at the date and it’s like April 2011 and you know for a fact that they’re still there, putting up the good fight. So I won’t be so, guess the nice way of putting it is, ambitious. Just going to do my best. The daily deluge of rain where I am currently has driven me (and everyone else) inside, so I’ll give this a whirl.

I changed the name to “The Raggedy Edge of Misunderstanding” because that’s where I feel that I live my life currently and it’s a place that I enjoy! It’s also a nice homage to one of my all time favorite (UK spell check hates me) television shows. The previous name was always more of a working title.

To the good stuff! (Bolded so that you can feel free to skip to here). Here’s a link to a highlight reel of pictures from my time in Korea (with a bit of Japan in there as a bonus). Just highlights. Didn’t want to photo bomb and tried to add context and locations to all of them. If we’re friends on Facebook, it’s those so feel free to ignore.

Secondly, I am now on my winter vacation… Read more…

Winter is Coming…

October 31, 2012

The end of October has completely jumped out at me, but I can’t control such things. Traditionally, today is a Halloween, but after doing Halloween themed lessons for the past two weeks, I returned to more “normal” topic (Zombies was a hit, which wasn’t a surprise). Besides, here it is Ace Day, which so far as I can gather, is Korean “Big Saltines” equivalent of Hallmark’s Valentines. People give each other boxes of saltine crackers. Brilliant, right?

The end of the month has also quickly brought with it two season changes. Every Korean I spoken with beams with pride about Korea’s four seasons, they just don’t tell you their duration. Just last week the trees changed colors overnight and just as quickly, the temperatures dropped significantly and many are already leafless. The cold is that Phoenix-style, rattling hand of death chilling your whole being kind. And it’s not November yet. Ill-prepared for such things, I may end of making a healthy-sized fire pit in my apartment. I’ll be sure to let you know. Read more…

Twin City by the Bay

October 3, 2012

Wanted to rattle off some surface level observations about my trip to Fukuoka/Hakata with a more detailed post to follow.

Why thank you

1. Let me give the Japanese my infinite praise for their fellow worship of the divine art in queuing. It’s efficiency is lost on so many and is sorely missed in Korea.

2. The abundance of bikes was incredible. People of all ages, and most impressively, attires, rocketing around the city often in dedicated lanes. I stared enviously on.

3. This is true anywhere, but speaking a bit of the language is always blah blah blah. You’re heard out before. However, I’ve never had a person I’m asking directions to physically recoil but they have a quick ko ni chi wa, be completely fine and helpful.
